Try the Decision Support Tool
This tool has been developed to aid operators of district heating network. The tool allows to combine parameters optionally and provides an estimated size for heat pumps or the combined heat and power plants correspondingly.
There are around 2400 biomass-based small district heating (DH) systems in Austria. Heat pumps (HP) and combined heat and power plants (CHP) are great ways to increase their DH-networks flexibility, the lifetime of the boilers and to decarbonize the system, while enabling DH systems to act as a component in balancing the electrical grid.
This tool has been developed to aid operators of DH network, not only in Austria, but also in other countries, in their decision whether to integrate HP’s or CHP’s as well as photovoltaic systems (PV). The tool allows to combine parameters optionally and provides an estimated size for the HP or the CHP correspondingly, based on the heat source for the heat pump and the base load of the network. The technical and the economic parameters provided by the tool should give a good basis in which direction to go into further detail.
